Holly meets my second little
granddaughter
-
on their first Christmas together!
Wendy is a baker who works as a
volunteer in the community art
center.  She will be raising goats to
make cheese next summer.
She too has a puppy - a big yellow
lab pup!
Dear Susan,

Holly continues to amaze us...she is just so smart - and becoming more confident and sure
of herself every day!
She is comfortable now - in the house and with us.  She knows her space and is happy in it.
She is just the joy of our lives and Terry - God Bless Him - is just bragging to everybody
about her.
He had bulldogs - and he said - compared to Bulldogs - she is SO SMART -
and just a beauty...he is "really impressed" with her.  I love it that he called his sons and told
them how wonderful
she is.  He says it is obvious she is very well bred - and of course we KNOW she is!

Holly got loose in the house while we were at the Doctors today...she was happily in the
great room playing with her toys
when we came home...and she just GALLOPS around the house.  No accidents inside - she
delivers every time we bring her
out - which is a lot!

My Shelby was a smart one - but I think this little girl has it all over Shelby - she is really
brilliant!  She "goes outside"
and is a "good girl" every time!  Today she spent the afternoon with me in the sunroom -
while I vacuumed - she mastered
going up AND DOWN the stairs....she was timid of the stairs yesterday - today she is a pro!
She is learning to speak - it is so cute.

I have to say - I am just really impressed with her breeding too Susan - I think she is worth
every penny we spent on her
and more - she is SO SMART - Sophie and Cubby must be incredible dogs!

I bought her the cutest little jacket to wear when we go outside - and it's cold here now!  I'll
take pictures of her tomorrow
and send them so you can see - she is sooooo special!  We started to crate train her
today....although we still have the play
yard in the kitchen and she is comfortable there - the crate is in the great room - she needs
to get comfortable with the crate
because we will be going to Maine the day after Christmas and she will need to spend time
in it during the night at my folks house.

We are just in love with her!  We've got the glow of new parents - and - we KNOW our
BABY is the smartest,
most brightest, adorable baby that ever was!!

Thank you !!!

Julie
Mary is one of the most sincere, God loving, wonderful
women I've ever met in my life.  She calls Holly her
Holly Dolly -
she is soon to retire from 25 years in the Federal Prison
System as a manager of the labor program.  She
oversees the inmates who work making clothing and
supplies for the soldiers abroad...like vests and canteen
carriers and different things like that.
Holly

I will be loved forever
by
Julie and Terry
from
The Adirondack Mtns, NY!
Holly~

Dear Susan,

This is Holly's future home.
We call it Fallingneedles Chalet because we
don't have grass - we have a russet blanket of pine
needles instead.  In the fall - it rains pine needles when
leaves are falling from the trees.  It's beautiful, we love
it and we are eager to welcome Holly here.

Julie
It is now after 11 pm and Holly is still raring to go!  She is so sweet - and
totally enjoys being with us - and very much dislikes being by herself!!!
She has gone outside twice this evening and loves to sniff and bite the snow -
and she peed outside so I'm very proud.   She is a good girl!

I'm bushed - it was 10 hrs in the car and then four hours this evening at
work....I'm ready for a good night's sleep - but Miss Holly has other plans -
she is laying on my desk, between my hands with her head resting on my
wrist as I type.  I think she's gonna get use to this position and routine
cause I have a big writing deadline looming and I just know - we cannot bear
to be away from one another.  She is the absolute most beautiful little dear
puppy I've ever seen - Shelby was cute - but Holly is beautiful.

I worried I wouldn't love her - but it is like when you have children - you
always have enough love for more.

Thank you - Julie
Today Holly had her first big outing.  We
went to my friend Barb's house for a
Christmas luncheon and cookie swap.
Holly was the special guest of honor and
she got to meet my 9 closest friends.
This is Holly with my friend Nan - who is
a sign language interpreter.  Here she is
showing
Holly the signs to say Merry Christmas!
Amy is an artist who grew up in the
Berkshire Mts. and moved to the
Adirondacks several years ago.  She and
I use to hike with Rocky and Shelby - my
cockers who passed.  She loves Holly.
Everyone loves Holly!
Barb is my best friend.  She is a designer and
textile artist who makes fabulous pillows and
purses from vintage textiles.  Her creations have
been in all sorts of magazines including Country
Living and Victoria.
She hosted today's luncheon and she invited Holly
and bought her the special jingle bell collar.  She is
Holly's auntie.
Kim is a stained glass artist who makes great
things from bits of glass she finds
tumbled smooth in the AuSable River.  Her
daughter Liza is a 12 yr. friend of mine
who will become a puppy play mate of Holly.
Kay is a very talented artist who
worked for Ralph Lauren for 8
years. She is one of the artisans in
my antique shop /artisan gallery .
After a busy day socializing with friends -
Holly settles in for a relaxing evening.I just
wanted to share with you all of Holly's new
friends.
We're having a wonderful time with her.
Dear Sue,
I am SO PROUD of my puppy.  She slept the whole night last night without so much
as a peep!
I was so worried about her - Terry checked on her twice and she just watched him
in the kitchen getting his medication .... without so much as a whimper .
She started out in the wire kennel - exhausted from romping and galloping around the
living room with her toys and
Momma - then about 10 pm she woke crying....I put her in her little play yard in the
kitchen and she curled
up on her pillow and went to sleep and didn't fuss all night.  I finally went out and
woke her up at 5 am this morning
and she just wiggled all over with delight .

She cuddled for a few minutes - had some breakfast - went outside and peed and
when we went to the door she
didn't want to come in - she went to the far end of the fenced in area where she has
designated as a pooping place and
she finished the job -  and then bounded back to the door - ears a flapping - knowing
she made me so proud!

She scurried around the dining room with a  paper towel tube while I made cookie
dough this morning and has since been carrying it all around the house.
As of this morning she began lessons in learning to "speak" and she spoke on
command several times ( of course me holding a tiny little bit
of puppy cookie helped - Milk Bone for pups - and I break one biscuit into 8 pieces
and she loves the treat ) but I believe she is so brilliant..
I cannot believe she just slept all night - and then this morning
with her toilet outside - she KNEW she wasn't finished and didn't come back in until
she had done the whole job
Holly gets plenty of exercise galloping up and down the hall as
fast as her little legs will carry her!  She is an ENTHUSIASTIC and PLAYFUL
little pup who thoroughly embraces structured play time at least four times a day - which
tuckers her
right out.

I've begun to introduce some mini training lessons.  She is learning to speak and shake -
and she's so smart she is beginning to "SPEAK" on command - as long as I have
a bit of a puppy treat in my hand that is !  I am also reinforcing behaviors with word commands -
such as "crate, sit, lay down, outside, inside, and stay."  I know it will take a while - but she's so
intelligent I figure by the time spring rolls around and I have to go back to
work at the antique shop she'll be able to accompany me every day.  We won't open until May -
but I'll be there working throughout April so it will give her a chance to acclimate to the
surroundings.

It's going to be a fun journey with her traveling by my side!  I couldn't be happier or more
pleased with her.
She is a perfect little girl.
It has been sooooo cold here in the
Adirondacks we put Holly's little jacket
on her when she "Goes OUTSIDE".
It doesn't get much cuter than this!
First Christmas for both
Baby and Holly!
Playing together!!
Babies' First Christmas!
Both Holly and Baby
find one another fascinating
on
Christmas morning!
Baby meets Baby Holly on
Christmas Eve
These two are great pals - how exciting
to have a puppy on Christmas morning!!
Grandson with Holly on
Christmas Morning!
By the time Christmas Morning rolled
around Holly was a pro at opening
presents because she had unwrapped
many that were under the tree!
Holly finds a comfortable seat. LOL
On Dec. 27th Holly took her first road trip to Maine
where she had a wonderful time
with these three little cousins!
Today Holly went with me for a 20 minute
cross country ski jaunt in the back field and
adjacent woods.  She had a great time
breaking trail and sniffing animal tracks!
She pretty much rode on the tips of my skis
most of the way - it was so cute!
Coming home was lots easier for her as she
ran ahead in the ski tracks all the way back
to the house.
Holly the snow puppy follows the ski trail
all the way back home!
Leading me home after a brisk ski
in the crisp morning sunshine!
Holly finds a great look-out on the top
of a small boulder this morning.
She blends right in with her
surroundings!
Holly leads the way.
She is having a wonderful time dashing
back and forth on this wood road
adjacent to our property!
Holly has a great view of home from
this old stump.  As quick as I took the
pic she dashed off toward the house!
Holly tried all evening to engage 11 yr. old Riley in some play.
His only retreat was to jump up on the couch
where she couldn't reach him.
Yesterday Holly finally had a chance to meet Judi and Riley - who live
in Boston.  Judi came into my antique shop
last summer with this wonderful big boy and my heart just melted.  It
had been months since I had lost my Shelby and I
did not know if I would ever be able to open my heart again - until I
met Riley.

Over the course of the summer they stopped in from time to time and
Judi and I became friends.  It was she that first
introduced me to the High Calling Cocker website.  I had been talking
with her about getting a puppy again - and since
we communicate all the time through the internet - she began to send
me links to sites.  She found HCC and when I logged
on and saw the beautiful puppies and heard the touching music - it
went into the very core of my being.  So - we have Riley and Judi to
thank for Holly!

We visited them in their beautiful  Adirondack cabin last night.  Riley
was quite "put off " that there was another dog in his domain - he tried
to ignore her most of the evening...but she is a little positive
ball of fluffy energy - she tried to engage him with pouncing and
jumping and puppy woofs and wags.  He
finally got away from her by jumping up on the couch and crawling
into my lap!  Holly didn't mind one bit - she's got lots
of self confidence!!  She ran up and down the stairs, explored every
nook and cranny and finally after peeing on the rug in
the bathroom - she found a comfy spot beside Judi's chair where she
took a well deserved snooze!

Good Morning Susan!

Little Miss Holly decided it was a good morning to get up
at 4:30 and play.  She has now mastered jumping up on the antique
fainting couch
in my office and is seen here with her basket of toys.  Throughout the
course of the
day the basket will be toted from room to room with us .  Where ever I
am - she is,
and since she is now teething - where ever she is - she chews....
so we've given her lots of toys and chew things to keep her occupied.

Holly is such a good little girl - but my new nickname for her is Miss
Chiff -
cause she's always getting into mischief !  For instance - if I do not
leash her
when we go outside to get in the car - she will run around me and the
car in
circles.  To her it is a game of tag - and I AM IT !!!  She also enjoys
tipping the
waste basket in the bathroom and shredding tissue!  AND on more than
one occasion
she has been known to snatch Daddy's paper back book and bring it
into her
bed with her toys!  (Of course NOTHING is quite as tasty as an
intriguing mystery - except of
course shoes and boots! )

Holly is now clicker trained to sit, stay, lay down, roll over, turn around,
shake and speak.
We are working on "COME" and "DOWN" .  She also waves Bye-bye
to Dad, and friends, when
they leave.  She's quite a little beauty too!  We're so proud of our
wonderful puppy.  Thank you
for breeding such an outstanding little doggie  l!!!  Hoping that Sophie
and Cubby are well -
tell them we love their little girl!!!

Our Happy Family!!
Little Holly was beside herself with excitement when the
band arrived for music practice last night!
After greeting all the musicians she settled in to enjoy some
of the tunes!  It doesn't get much
cuter than this!

I think I'm gonna have to re-write the words to Ralph
Stanley's famous song Polly - Pretty Polly.
It'll be something like:

Holly, Pretty Holly - Come Go Along with ME -
Holly, Little Holly come go along with me ....
Let's go for a walk and some pleasure we'll see!

We'll hike over mountains and valleys so deep,
I'll take you over mountains and valleys so deep,
We'll run in the fields and climb hills so steep.

I got a ways to go - there are about 8 verses! LOL.

She's doing so well.  She is bright and gets into mischief
with her favorite game being "Steal the tissue from the
wastebasket
and watch mum and dad try to catch me!"  She knows if she
goes into
the bathroom and tips over the plastic waste can...we'll be
there
on the spot...she waits for us - rump up in the air and tail
wagging -
then the chase is on!  It's kinda cute - she initiates this as play.
It's HOLLY's very own game of tag!

We love her.

Julie
The recent heavy snows in our region knocked
down so many tree limbs and branches on the
property I've been cleaning up for days.
Holly is so smart...she has begun to pitch in an
help!  Time and again she will find a small branch
and drag it toward the pile.  Here she
is - such a big girl now at nearly 5 months and
weighing in at 13lbs. 8 oz.
The last several days I've been checking Holly's teeth frequently because her K-9s were
getting really loose! Yesterday when I picked her up from the groomers - she had lost her left
tooth - this morning while she and I were playing "Find the Quacky Ducky" - our spirited
version of Hide and Seek - I noticed a tinge of red on "Quacky Duck" when she brought
him back to me - it didn't take any effort at all to find that little pointed baby tooth on the
floor.  She is 5 mos. and 10 day sold.  I put her baby tooth in an envelope and tucked it into a
sleeve in her Puppy Book.  She's growing into a beautiful young girl and
she is living up to her nick-name "Miss Chiff"  It's a good thing she is so cute !!!!

Miss Holly
I found Quacky Duck at the local library fund raiser sale for 50 cents.  It's great
because when you press the belly - it "quack, quack, quacks" - it is
Holly's all time favorite toy.  One night last week she woke up
fretting around 2:30 am till I took her outside - and then she got
Quacky Duck and brought him into her kennel to sleep for the rest of the night.
That is seriously - tooooo cute!!!!!
Holly has been sitting on the desk in front of the computer keyboard since the
day she came home with me. It was easy at first to type with a little puppy
snoozing between my arms...however - as she grows it is becoming
increasingly difficult to write in this manner - yet neither one of us is ready to
give up doing it as it's part of our daily routine.
I keep thinking that, like a child, the day will come when she doesn't want to
do it anymore - so with that in mind I'll
continue to let her invade my space until it's impossible to manage or SHE
gives it up.
Granddaughter Rylee came for a visit and
got re-acquainted with Holly today.  They
hadn't seen each other since Christmas!
